The Art of Henna

Community Education Adult & Family Classes / Arts & Enrichment -
Community Education - Spring Summer 2025

Discover this cool art form called Mehndi (henna body art).

Learn how the henna paste is made, how to create basic designs, and do some hands-on practice using a henna cone.

All participants will receive a henna "tattoo" (lasts approximately 2 weeks) as part of this fun workshop. A fun workshop for mothers and daughters to do together!

A material fee of $10.00 (for 2 henna cones) is to be paid directly to the instructor at class.

Zaney Janey/De-Vine Designz

Zaney Janey of De-vine Designz took a somewhat unusual path to becoming an artist. She first earned the name Zaney Janey working as an activity director for the party-planning company, It’s Your Party in Madison, Wisconsin. She began providing face painting at birthday parties before branching into field games at corporate events. From there, she discovered the ancient practice of creating temporary tattoos with dye derived from the henna plant.

Zaney Janey graduated from UW-Madison with a degree in social work. Her passion for helping others shows especially in her work with organizations like the Special Olympics. She’s also taught classes on everything from henna to specialty arts to Spanish.
