Monarch Tagging
Special Interest
Join Carpenter Nature Center and discover the amazing world of the Monarch Butterfly. We start by learning about the life cycle of a butterfly, their importance in the environment and gain insight into their amazing migration to Mexico. We will also catch, tag and release wild monarchs. This data is then submitted to Monarch Watch and used for scientific research across North America. (Note: We will not be able to catch or release butterflies in the event of rain.) Students enrolled in the Monarch Tagging class are invited to stay after the class is finished to participate in a Pollinator & Native Plant Festival at the Carpenter Nature Center. This free event is scheduled from 12:00-4:00 pm on Saturday, August 17, and highlights native plants and invertebrate communities. Please wear clothing appropriate for walking off-trail through long grass. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
