Ready to whip up a scarf that’s as simple as it is satisfying? The Easy Recipe Scarf is perfect for knitters of any skill level—especially beginners who want a fun, social project they can start (and actually finish!).
Bring yarn from your own collection with appropriately sized needles, or grab some from your favorite local yarn shop. The pattern is a guide, so any yarn works while you learn the techniques. We recommend approximately 275–300 yards of sport or DK weight yarn and size 6–8 needles. You’ll knit every row (garter stitch!) and learn easy increases and decreases to shape your scarf. By the end of class, you’ll have a cozy, asymmetrical scarf that’s completely your own—whether you keep it or gift it is up to you! Students are responsible for bringing their own materials. No novelty yarns for this project, please. The pattern is provided by the instructor.
I teach knitting, crocheting and Tunisian crochet classes at several yarn shops and art centers in the Minneapolis/St. Paul/St. Croix Valley area. One of my passions is knitting and crocheting with beads. I teach classes at ThunderWillow Community Arts in Hudson, at the Ramsey County and Hudson libraries, as well as through Hudson Community Education. I have been teaching professionally for seven years. My background as a graphic artist in the publishing industry facilitates my ability to design, write, produce and publish my patterns. I learned to knit continental or combination style at seven years old from my grandmother, who had to teach me in order to get her own knitting back from me! I live in western WI, with my husband, and the boss of the household, Thomas Edison, our stray kitty who came to stay. I am Yarn Happy Bead Happy!
