Whether you’ve just picked up a guitar or want to build a solid foundation, this course is the perfect place to start. You’ll learn the essentials of playing guitar, including how to hold your instrument, pick and strum with confidence, and play basic chords. In the first two classes, you’ll focus on picking and strumming techniques along with a few must-know chords. Then, you’ll explore the basics of music theory to better understand how songs are built. In the final two classes, you’ll learn how to read simple music notation—giving you the tools to continue learning long after the course ends.
You’ll need to bring your own guitar and an extra set of strings. The same instruction is offered at each session, so you can choose the time that works best for you. Let’s get started and make some music!
Dan Shedore took an interest in music at the young age of 4 and picked up the guitar. At age 8, he started taking private lessons at Brickhouse Music and continued through high school. He attended music college at McNally Smith College of Music in St. Paul, MN and received his Bachelor of Music degree in Guitar Performance in 2013. Through the years, Dan has played in many bands with a wide variety of genres from jazz, blues, rock and more. For the past 13 years, he has taught private lessons to both youth and adults. He focuses lessons on the student's needs and takes the time to make sure each student understands the topic at hand. "Growing up with a vision impairment made learning music a challenge, but I was determined to succeed," says Dan. "I see music as a healing tool, which is why I have a passion for teaching others." In 2018, he opened the Shedore School of Music.
