NEW! Rediscover Dubuque and Galena!

Tour Host: Betsy Ganz

Thursday, September 26 - Sunday, September 29, 2024

3 nights, 4 days

Prepare for an unforgettable adventure with Hudson Community Education as we revisit the charming river towns of Dubuque, Iowa, and Galena, Illinois, in an upgraded 3-night, 4-day tour that will surely surpass all expectations!

Our journey begins as we experience a picturesque drive along the Great River Road in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Along the way, we'll explore gems such as Lark Toys in Kellogg, MN, the Minnesota Marine Art Museum & Gardens in Winona, MN, and indulge in a delightful lunch at the Three Rivers Lodge in LaCrosse, WI, overlooking the majestic Mississippi River.

Upon arriving in Dubuque, revel in the luxury of the historic Hotel Julien Dubuque, an elegant boutique hotel that marries modern amenities with historic charm, nestled in the heart of the Old Main District. Immerse yourself in lavish accommodations, featuring either a King-size bed or 2 Queens, with select rooms designed for mobility access. Indulge in the hotel's full-service spa, indoor pool, fitness center, Caroline's Restaurant, and room service. Our welcome appetizer reception at the Riverboat Lounge will set the tone for an unforgettable stay.

Dubuque unfolds its rich history through captivating visits to The National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium, Fenelon Place Elevator, Dubuque Arboretum Botanical Gardens, Eagle Point Park, Tiffany Glass Windows at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, and lunch at The Convivium Urban Farmstead. An enchanting Progressive Dinner Tour will take you through three historic sites, offering entertainment, music, and delectable cuisine. During this guided experience, you will be mesmerized as costumed docents and local historians share facts about what made 19th century Dubuque so distinctive and why it continues to be the “Masterpiece of the Mississippi. Free time will also be provided for you to explore a bit on your own - maybe even try your luck at Diamond Joe’s Casino!

In Galena, immerse yourself in the legacy of Ulysses S. Grant while we tour his home, gifted to him by the citizens of Galena upon his return from the Civil War. Enjoy the history of this charming town while attending a guided trolley tour, and savor free time on "America’s Best Main Street," adorned with historic sites, unique shops, and superb restaurants for lunch on your own. Not a shopper? Visit other historical sites including the Galena History Museum, the Old Blacksmith Shop or take the walking bridge over the Galena River to Grant Park to view historical landmarks from the Civil War and World War I.

Enjoy some unforgettable experiences as we journey back home. Relive the magic of the Field of Dreams Movie site in Dyersville, Iowa, including a visit from a "ghost" baseball player. After a lunch stop, we will explore Vesterheim, the National Norwegian-American Museum in Decorah, Iowa. At this national treasure, we can explore the American immigration story through the lens of the Norwegian-American experience. Lastly, let's enjoy some local Wisconsin cheese and indulge in a sweet treat at the Nelson Cheese Factory in Nelson, WI.
