In this active, hands-on camp, participants will learn the fundamentals of all three Olympic fencing weapons while developing footwork, bladework, strategy, and sportsmanship. Through fun drills, games, and supervised practice bouts, students will build coordination, focus, agility, and confidence as they learn what it takes to become a skilled fencer.
Whether new to the sport or looking to sharpen existing skills, this camp offers a fun and challenging introduction to one of the world's oldest and fastest-growing Olympic sports. All equipment will be provided. Please bring a water bottle and dress in athletic/running shoes and comfortable athletic pants suitable for movement.
Coach Kailan Benford has been fencing since the age of 7 and coaching since the age of 15. Trained by his mother, Coach Maria Benford, Kailan has earned numerous tournament titles and holds a rating with the United States Fencing Association. When he's not coaching or competing, he enjoys taking college classes and working out at the gym. His favorite saying is, "Sometimes your best effort is not good enough," a reminder that growth comes from perseverance and continually striving to improve.
